Confession: I'll watch American Idol this season. Yeah i know, i say that annoyed and dissappointed in myself....and it was all because of 1 article: http://tv.yahoo.com/blog/when-idol-becomes-idle--77
I for one am sick of season after season watching the quality of winning contestants fall. Sure we had a few great runs with Kelly Clarkson (although where the heck is she now?), Carrie Underwood and the non-winning Chris Daughtry but other than that all we seem to get are the same thing season after season: crazy paula, mean simon and forgetable randy. Oh yeah and a bunch of one hit wonders who probably don't deserve to be televised. Close those horror shocked mouths! Yes i am speaking american idol blasphemy. And true, up until... hmmm... this season, you could easily find me glued to the TV every tuesday and wednesday night calling in my vote and hoping my favorite makes it into the next round, but come on....i think its time to end it while the fans want more. Take a year off, make us be bummed that its gone and then super excited when it returns. Make us look forward to watching it!!
But anyways back to the article and the reason I will be watching: changes. Apparently this season is not being produced by Nigel Lythgo, so a few changes are taking place and I for one am interested to see whether it is going to completely blow or breath new life into played out reality show. I am looking forward to see if the new judge is going to be good or simply a crowd pleasing paula. It will be interesting to see hollywood week turn into more than one week and enjoy picking favorites early on. I am a tad bit disappointed that less crappy singers will be let through. Come on if i gotta suffer through endless weeks of this ATLEAST make it worth it with people to laugh at! it will be nice that there wont be the definite 50/50 male/female split because lets face it, they kept out some good singers because they could only let 6 of each in. So hopefully this season will be a memorable one and not another few wasted weeks.
On another note I totally got suckered into watching Tool Academy on VH1. Alfie really wanted to watch it, thinking like me, that it would be a bunch of conceited douche bags all in a house causing trouble while trying to get reformed for their unhappy girlfriends. Kind of like a male version of Rock of Love Charm school. Now while i thoroughly enjoyed Charm school, i wasn't as excited for this Tool Academy. I just thought it would suck. Boy was I wrong!! It was really good and i felt so bad for some of these girls. The premis ended up being that the girls stayed on the show and worked with the guys on how to fix their relationship through a series of challenges that work on stuff the guys sucked at: communication, fidelity etc. So as part of it each couple has to go through therapy together. not bad. the catch is that its infront of the entire group. So in the first therapy session they all watched the entrance videos in which each person talked about their significant other: girls - why their man needed to be here and guys - about themselves and shadey douchey things (like cheating and using the girls) and then about their gfs. I could not understand why any of these girls stuck with the guys. They were rude and mean and 60% of them cheated on their gfs mutliple times by sleeping with other women. But anyways, i was totally hooked! This show wasn't making the player lifestyle appealing, it was being real and showing these guys what they really are....LOSERS! I will definitely be watching next sunday!
